WhatsApp API's Daily Messaging Limit

When using the official WhatsApp API, WhatsApp enforces a daily messaging limit within a rolling 24-hour period. This limit depends on your phone number’s Status, Quality Rating, and how frequently your business initiates conversations with unique customers.

This article explains how these messaging limits work, how to increase them, and what role your account's quality rating plays in the process.

Let’s start by understanding how the daily messaging limits are structured and how they increase over time.

Note: This limit is not set by our tool; it is set by WhatsApp for their API. Your WANotifier subscription plan and the daily messaging limit are not related. Upgrading your WANotifier plan does not increase your daily messaging limit.

You can check your messaging limit on the WANotifier Dashboard page here:

Daily Messaging Limit Tiers

To help maintain platform quality, WhatsApp increases your messaging limit gradually based on the quality rating of your phone number.

  1. 250 messages / 24 hrs
  2. 1,000 messages / 24 hrs
  3. 10,000 messages / 24 hrs
  4. 100,000 messages / 24 hrs
  5. Unlimited messages / 24 hrs

When you set up your account for the first time, WhatsApp assigns it a default limit of 250 business-initiated messages per day.

How to Increase Your Messaging Limit to 1,000

To increase your messaging limit to 1,000 messages per day (and eventually to higher limits), your phone number must have a Connected status with Medium or High quality rating.

You also need to fulfill one or more of the following conditions:

1. Meta Business verification

You need to get your business verified first. It usually takes upto 1-2 business days to verify your business, if you upload all the legal business documents correctly.

2. Identity Verification

If you submit your business for verification and are approved, you may be asked to verify your identity.

If you are asked to verify your identity, the WhatsApp Manager > Overview > Limits panel will display the following notification:

If you complete identity verification and your identity is confirmed, Meta will approve a messaging limit increase. If your identity is not confirmed, they will deny a messaging limit increase, and you can check that from WhatsApp Manager > Overview > Limits tab.

3. Send 1,000 or more messages

Open 1,000 or more business-initiated conversations in a 30-day moving period using templates with a high quality rating rating. Once you reach this threshold, Meta will analyze your messaging quality to determine if your messaging activity warrants an increase to your messaging limit. Based on this analysis, they will then either approve or deny an increase.

4. Send High-Quality Messages

Even if you are rejected for business or identity verification, ensure that you are sending high-quality messages. Meta will periodically reevaluate your messaging activity and quality and based on this analysis, may approve an increase.

Here are some guidelines for sending high-quality messages:

  • Make sure messages follow the WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy.
  • Only send messages to users who have opted into receiving messages from your business.
  • Make the messages highly personalized and useful to users. Avoid sending open-ended welcome or introductory messages.
  • Be mindful of messaging frequency; avoid sending customers too many messages a day. Be thoughtful of informational messages, optimizing for content and length.

5. Request an Increase

If you completed business verification or identity verification, or have met the 1K conversations in 30 days threshold, but are still limited to 250 business-initiated conversations, you can open a direct support ticket and request a messaging tier upgrade ( Ask a Question > WABiz: Phone Number & Registration > Request type > Request a Messaging Tier Upgrade).

Based on your support submission and messaging quality, Meta will either approve or deny an increase.

How to Increase Your Messaging Limit Beyond 1,000

After getting the 1,000 daily limit, WhatsApp automatically keeps increasing your limit to 10,000, 1,00,000 and unlimited per day gradually according to your usage and quality of messages that you're sending.

You can see how they calculate whether your limit should be increased to higher tier or not by referring to this article.

For all new accounts, we recommend getting the steps above done as a priority so you can start sending bulk messages to your customers without limitations.

Understanding Quality Rating

Your Quality Rating plays a major role in how WhatsApp evaluates your eligibility for higher messaging tiers. You can view your quality rating in your WANotifier Dashboard page, under the Quality Rating column.

WhatsApp assigns one of three quality levels to your number:

  • Green – High quality
  • Yellow – Medium quality
  • Red – Low quality

This rating is based on user feedback, specifically:

  • How often users block or report your number
  • The overall performance of your messages over the past 7 days

When a user blocks your number, they can select a reason such as No longer neededDidn't sign upSpamOffensive messages or No reason.

To maintain high quality rating, make sure you send messages only to opted-in users and send high quality messages.
