Verify your Meta Business account

After you setup your WhatsApp Cloud API, you can immediately start to use our tool for sending and receiving messages. But until you verify your business and get your Display Name approved, WhatsApp restricts you to send only upto 250 messages per day.

You can increase this limit to 1,000 messages per day by completing these two steps. In this article we’re going see how to get your business verified.

Requirements

To verify your business with WhatsApp, you need the following two documents:

Business legal name document – for this you can use either your GST certificate, EIN documentation, certificate of incorporation/formation or your business license.
Business address & phone number document – for this you can use any of your MSME Udyog Aadhar, utility bill (water, electricity, etc.), bank statement or business license.

WhatsApp Cloud API charges (Charges for sending messages)

WhatsApp charges a small per-conversation fee for the messages you send. These charges are not billed by us and you pay this directly to Meta (the company that owns WhatsApp) on their portal.

In this article we’re going to show you how to create your account on WANotifier, setup WhatsApp Cloud API credentials and integrate that with WANotifier.

By following the instructions till the end of this article you’ll have your account ready to start sending WhatsApp notifications.

Must-have Requirements

Following are 4 must-have requirements by WhatsApp to setup WhatsApp Cloud API. Please make sure you have all of the following before proceeding.

Phone Number – this is the number you’ll be using to setup the APIs and this will be shown to the receivers of your WhatsApp messages.
- Note that if you’re already using a phone number on the WhatsApp mobile app, you won’t be able to use that number with the API. Either you’ll have to disconnect the number from your phone app if you want to use it or get a new phone number for integration with WhatsApp Cloud API.
- WhatsApp does not allow using same phone number for both WhatsApp phone app and WhatsApp Cloud API.
Registered Business – you must have a registered business and have some kind of government issued business registration proof like incorporation document.
- For Indian businesses, having a GST certificate is mandatory.
- If you do not have legal business documents, you won’t be able to use WhatsApp Cloud APIs.
Website – you must also have a website. WhatsApp requires you to have a live website for your business with a privacy policy page for your users.

Display Name Approval

After setting up WhatsApp Cloud API and verifying your business, the next step to increase your daily messaging limit to 1,000 messages per day, you need to get your display name approved by WhatsApp.

When you add your phone number (with a display name) during API setup, the name is automatically sent to WhatsApp for review. It may take up to 24 hours for them to review and either approve or reject your Display Name.

You can check the status of your display name from the Phone Numbers page in WhatsApp Manager.

If you added the display name as per the Display Name Guidelines, the number should get approved within a day and your limit should get increased to 1,000 automatically.

But in case you did not follow the guidelines earlier, the name might be rejected and you’ll need to re-submit a new name for their review.

How to add a new Display Name?

Follow the steps below to add your new phone number and get it approved:

Go to Phone Numbers page in your WhatsApp Manager. Make sure correct WhatsApp account is selected from right top.
Now click on the edit icon next to your current name.
That’ll open a popup like the following that you can use to add a new name:
After you submit this form, it’ll take approximately 24 – 48 hours for the WhatsApp team to review your name and either approve or reject it. They’ll send you a notification to inform you about this.
After your new Display Name gets approved, you cross check it by click on the View button under Certificate column. It’ll show both your current and new display name.

After you get your new Display Name approved, you need to switch to that name in your account.
