Are you getting this error while trying to send messages?

ERROR: Message not sent. Message failed to send because there were too many messages sent from this phone number in a short period of time.

Let’s look at why this happens and what you can do to resolve it.

Why do you get this error?

This error occurs when your WhatsApp phone number exceeds the allowed throughput limit, or the number of messages that can be processed per second.

By default, WhatsApp allows up to 80 messages per second (MPS) for each sender. This limit includes both incoming and outgoing messages.

The error is usually triggered when you send a large number of messages in a short burst (e.g., during a campaign) and start receiving replies during the same time. This simultaneous activity can temporarily cause your total message volume to exceed the 80 MPS limit.

It’s important to note that your throughput (messages per second) is not the same as your messaging limit (maximum number of conversations you can open in a rolling 24-hour period).

This means that even if you’re allowed to message thousands of users per day, your messaging activity must still stay within the allowed rate of 80 messages per second.

How to fix this error

This is a temporary error. Once your messaging activity returns to a normal rate, you can manually resend the failed messages.

If you want to avoid this error in the future, we recommend you:

  • Gradually roll out your messages over several days, instead of sending everything at once.
  • Use the Scheduling option in the Add Notification screen to space out your messages.

y following these practices, you can reduce your chances of hitting the throughput limit and improve your message delivery success rate.
